And here I am going ugh at the thought of formatting for print, lol. Ebooks being free to publish probably has something to do with that. I haven't actually published in about three years, and there was a glitch with the then-new Kindle Paperwhite that required extra fiddling with the formatting in Calibre, but other than that, it wasn't a huge deal. Amazon's document converter was supposed to be really crappy then, so we didn't bother with it and just fed in our own mobi files made in Calibre. I've heard it's much better now but don't know firsthand. Amazon's instructions are here: https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A17W8UM0MMSQX6 and its programs are here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000234621 They seem to have swapped out the Paperwhite in their viewer program for the new Voyage, and I'm not sure if all the other devices are there. The mobi of one of my fics from AO3 looked good on it every which way, at any rate, haha. I have my own first gen Paperwhite now and would recommend getting some sort of e-reader to check your work, and just as a good thing to have if you're going into the ebook biz. I can definitely say that seeing your own ebook in there with whoever else you're reading produces some good Real Author feelings. Plus, they're pretty great to read on. Nice lighting and appearance, very comfortable.

Thanks, yeah, it's looking like I'll probably need to at least BORROW someone's e-reader. I really have no interest in owning one myself, but ennnngh, for the job...
