Yup, especially since they're keeping him white. I kinda had hope for him when the comics made the new spiderman black, but no, the movies just have to keep him white.

Good for them for paying attention to what fangirls want!

I feel somewhat similarly. I was super excited to see Civil War but that excitement deflated a bit when I heard he was in it. I still want to see it but I have zero interest in Spider-man. I've read the synopsis of the movie and it sounds like it might be okay, but I just wish he wasn't in it at all.

I don't mind Spider-man as a character (for the most part) but he doesn't really appeal to me and I was happier when he was kept separate before the 2 studios made their agreement. Teen-super-hero just isn't interesting to me, and especially not in a movie like Civil War that's dealing with some serious issues. The only Spider-man I liked was the 90s animated version, which had a good mix of quippy but also serious. He felt more mature, I guess, which isn't supposed to be his appeal?

All this, plus I'm just...bored of him. I don't trust the MCU to make him interesting enough to warrant another movie.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. If the Andrew Garfield movies never existed, I'd probably be a lot more interested in him appearing.
But now, at five fucking movies, I just don't care anymore.
Also this could of been a really good opportunity to introduce Milo Morales and they blew it.
;(

*lol sorry, I meant Miles.

This. We've seen Spiderman before. He's not that interesting anymore.
nightscale: Starbolt (Marvel: Loki outfit)

I like Spidey but... man we've had a lot of him. Like if they can do something different and interesting with his story then sure, I'll be game. But atm I just don't really care that much.

Yeah, and the latest trailer made my cautious interest in him plummet to complete meh.

Spidey is very unpopular on F!S, so you are not alone.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-27 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, this is yet another Spiderman, already?

Marvel has him back now. You think they are going to use one of the spidermans that already stinks of failure?

At least as a teen arrogance is expected?

I feel they got him right, but ymmv.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I saw the movie yesterday, and while I really enjoyed his scene individually (especially as Peter), him being Spider-Man (not to say the arrogance, snarkiness, and quips) really did look so out of place in MCU.

Someone in the movie did call him out on it, though.

I'm so-so as far as the main MCU is concerned, but I am SOOO hoping they can't get Spidey for Deadpool. Because that will make the moms who were angry at R rated Deadpool get even LOUDER for a kid friendly sequel because Spiderman will be in it.

NO. THANK YOU.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Deadpool is still owned by Fox, though, and considering the success of the movie, there's no chance the rights are going to revert back to Marvel now.

I know that, but Sony is loaning out Spidey, so...

Wait, Deadpool's owned by Fox?

Man, the whole ownership of Marvel characters by multiple studios makes my head spin...

I feel the same way, but that's because I can't fucking stand Peter Parker as a character in any incarnation.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Now that you mention it, I guess Spider-Man is supposed to be a bit arrogant and annoying. That may be one reason he resonates with so many black people.

OK, that's a bit trollish this late in the day. More seriously, Spider-Man has a kind of confidence that a lot of us, of any color, wish we had. Even though he's canonically a white guy from Queens, it's a very New York attitude in general. And it's easy for me to see why a lot of kids want to be like that. And then they grow up to be arrogant rappers and comedians. Or Childish Gambino.

On the page, it probably stings less. But yes, he acts like an arrogant ass under the mask.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought he was adorable in CA:CW. Not arrogant in the least.
