It was *too* trope-y for me. Got bored. Haven't read the last book yet. The second book had such a good opportunity to do some interesting things, especially with the main villain.

I like the worlds the new YA lit authors are building, but holy shit, can we get some new plotlines? Some new character types? Please?

Whooooa, what timing! I just made an attempt at this series a couple weeks ago. Didn't make it to the third book, just got too weird for me. I wish it had just been Karou shenanigans in Prague. :(

I just recently finished the second book, and I agree: the best parts of the series were Karou's shenanigans in Prague. I'd seriously read a couple hundred more pages of just that. The supernatural in this world is interesting and somewhat compelling, but not enough so where I'm dying for more.

I liked these too, I could've done without the hints at Karou-centered love triangles, but on the other hand I appreciated that there wasn't a lot of "which guy should I choose" and more "I feel bad for the guy with the childhood crush and the smokin' hot sociopath makes my skin crawl because sociopath" and "the love of my two lives massacred my people what the fuck" than "I have to pick one guy over the other." The point of the series wasn't who she'd end up with, and insofar as it was in question, it was more "can I forgive him?" than the more popular "I thought I was in love with this guy until I met this other guy" thing that gets so repetitive in YA lit.

Did you know it's getting a big screen adaptation? Personally I think if they do it right, it'll look fantastic on film.
