Let's talk about your old favorite games. What you liked, if you shipped/art/fic/anything, do you still play it - whatever!

Ocarina of Time! Never shipped anything in it (still don't). I've played it on the N64 a couple of times in the past 2-3 years but I don't have any consoles/handhelds so I can't play the updated versions. :(

Ahhh, Ocarina of Time is so good. I played the 3DS version for the first time last year and was fully anticipating it to be good but overhyped, yet it lived up to every bit of its enormous reputation. I was blown away at how much I enjoyed it.

I've watched an LP of the original and basically they're exactly the same apart from the 3DS looks prettier, the Iron Boots are easier to equip and the Water Temple is slightly easier. Other than "basically shinier", you're not missing much by not playing the 3DS version.

I don't ship anything either. If anything, I want to read a fic where Link and Zelda end up hanging out at Lon Lon Ranch with Malon while they rebuild Hyrule and have cute farming friendship adventures.

They made the Water Temple easier? Pssssshhhh. That was the ONLY time I ever bought a video game guide from a store. Came with a nifty poster as well.

I know it's considered to be overrated, overhyped, whatevs, but OoT is still my favorite zelda game. I just think the world is so open and connected in a way none of the other games quite feel. Also that soundtrack a++

How old is old? Does FFVIII count as old? Because that was my favorite game for a long time and I shipped just about everything and I wrote fic/drew fanart for it (really terrible fic and art but it was there!).

I am most of the way through a replay of it, now - I'm grinding the Islands Closest to Heaven and Hell to get my GFs to level 100 - and it was what I was going to respond with, too.

I didn't make any fic or art about it, but I sure loved it. Kiros/Ward was my first real m/m ship. (I'm still not entirely convinced it's not canon.)

(I remember when it was an underrated game...now it seems to be seriously beloved by most...I am shocked, but delighted by this.)

FF8, from what I can tell, is one of those games that's extremely polarizing, and has no real middle ground. I remember being super hyped for it as a kid, playing it and... throwing my controller to the ground exclaiming something not so pleasant when I got to the plot twist on Disc 3 because even back then I found it ridiculous, haha.

That said, looking back on it as an adult, I found that while I greatly better understood Squall's character, I found myself interested in everyone who wasn't Squall and Rinoa, lmao. I'm not sure I'd want modern day Squenix to make a sequel, but I really kinda wanted to see more of the FF8 world and the lore built upon (especially the Guardian Forces). I'm still kinda buttmad that Dirge of Cerberus was originally planned to be a FF8 spin-off featuring Irvine (who's my favorite character) and then they decided to go with FF7 instead, though given how DoC turned out? I think it was for the best they didn't use the FF8 setting.

I also loved the overall aesthetic. The futuristic, squeaky clean sci-fantasy setting was a nice contrast to the lived in junkyard-esque feel of FF7.

I think it counts, it's about as old as some of my early favourites.

That aside, I only got into Final Fantasy in 2005 ad maged to get PC copies of 7 and 8 from Ebay, but they don't work on Win7 - or is it Griever or Jenova that doesn't work? I know one game didn't work and the one that did, the savegame editor wouldn't work, as I just can't play without some cheat options.

OMG POKEMON PUZZLE LEAGUE. I had completely forgotten about that one, that's the Tetris-y one right?

Myst, King's Quest, and Diablo were my games. I wanted to ship someone in Myst but there really wasn't anyone. I didn't find the family to be that compelling, but the worldbuilding is awesome. I love the steampunk aesthetic.

I have so many ships for KQ, it's embarrassing. I've written a few fics. A couple will stay drawer fics because I can't see kinky fic being well received for these games. But, I do love these games to pieces. Haven't played the new game yet, as I'm waiting for the other chapters to get released and hope it has a hard copy I can buy instead of downloading it.

Diablo is a nice game to play when I don't have to pay attention to anything. Never got too invested in the storylines or characters - just wanted to level up as far as possible. I really hated that Diablo 3 only came out online, so I never played that.

Yes, I play all of them still. Not constantly, but every once in a while, I pull all of them out to play.

Are you my aunt, OP? *comes from a KQ and Myst family*

I wrote KQ V fic about Dink once. Er, no ships. But yeah, good times, good times. I was SO MAD when the postal service lost my Roberta Williams Anthology in the last move, but I can buy the revamp from Steam eventually.

Pepper's Adventures in Time! I've never met a single person who played it (besides friends and family who played it with me). Was it some obscure game, or just nerdy enough that no one boasts it?

Also, Purple Moon. Another one I loved that I never hear anyone mention.

I was going to mention Purple Moon! I played the Rockett games so many times I still have dialogue memorized. Especially the self-introductions the characters would give when you first opened their locker. The lockers were my favorite part.

Spyro the Dragon and the PS1 Crash Bandicoot games, I loved them so much and I used to replay Spyro and CB Warped over and over. I haven't played either in a long time though.

I LOVED Spyro: Ripto's Rage. It was the second Spyro game and I made sure I had it with me in college because it was such a stress reliever for me.

YES! Loved Spyro and Crash from the PS1 era. (PS2 lost us on both franchises.) Crash 2 was my favorite though. Replayed through the Spyros within the past few years and FINALLY got 100% on Spyro 1. Spyro 2 and 3 were better made, but I have fond memories of all of them!

I should go back to Suikoden III, IV, and V. I haven't played any of them in years but man, I miss that world so much.

I LOVE Suikoden. I think either III or V is my favorite. I was really sad when I heard they wouldn't be making any more games...

Star Fox 64 is probably one of my all-time favorite games. It's like a nice, warm blanket to me. But I guess on the whole, I had a soft spot for the Star Fox franchise in varying degrees for every game but Command. The 3D remake is pretty great, and I absolutely love SFZero. But I'll always have a nostalgic love for SF64. I don't really think I "shipped" anything at the time... then again, I never really had any pairings I was set on in the Star Fox series (Fox/Fara from the Nintendo Power comic, maybe, but that's only because Krystal quickly became a hot garbage fire after Adventures. Command did nothing to help), though. Probably for the best.

Shadows of the Empire's another favorite of mine. I don't particularly care about all the expanded universe bullshit and whether or not it's "canon": not like the EU reboot made my copy of the game vanish from existence or anything. I really wish they'd rerelease it on either a Nintendo Virtual Console or even Steam (it'd have to be an emulator port of the N64 version, since IIRC the PC version -with FMV and voice acting- could only run on very, very specific specs), but you know, EA. :/ No ships, fic, or art... I don't do Star Wars fanworks anymore outside of TOR.

I also loved -okay, still love- the Xenosaga series. It was a hot mess and had extremely laughable "theology", but I enjoyed it for what it was. Though I was more interested in Jr.'s side of the story, since Episode II was the first game in the series I'd played, lmao. I really should track down Ep. 2 and 3 someday and replay the entire trilogy (since we're probably never getting a HD remaster on PSN). That'd be nice. No ships either, oddly enough. (I can't ship Jr./MOMO. as anything but friends, for one)

Not super old, but Final Fantasy IX is still one of my favorite games of all time. I replayed it a few months ago for the first time in years and it was just as good as I remembered. The characters kill me, the soundtrack is amazing, everything about it makes me cry and I love it!! I'm such a sucker for Zidane/Garnet it's ridiculous.

I wish I could get a Win7 compatible version of Doom to play.

I do have a version of Sim City 2000 I got from GoG, though the Paint The City function of SCurk doesn't work properly - I can't get alternate building graphics to load.

Finding the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale Enhanced Editions has given me back some of my first games.
