Re: eating healthier
My first step was to make sure I ate breakfast every day, because I was really bad about it. I ate whatever I wanted for breakfast, the important part was that I ate something.
After that was a habit, I started changing what I ate for breakfast. I went from sausage biscuits and sugary cereal every morning to low-fat omelets with veggies, granola and fruit, etc.
After that was a habit, I started adding veggies to my lunch. I ate whatever I wanted - hot dogs, hamburgers, potato chips - but I always ate a salad with it. Spinach, broccoli, bell peppers, and tomatoes, with vinaigrette dressing. After making a salad to go with lunch was second nature, I started in on my entrees - lean proteins, whole grains, and fruit to go with my salad. Etc, etc, etc.
Just pick one thing at a time to change, keep doing it until it becomes a habit, and then move on to the next.
This is the same system I used to get started on an exercise routine.
