pseudocides and other online schemes

Tell me about the liars, cheats, and other company you've ran into online.

Not for sure, but recently some person I follow mom died and they wanted ~10k to cover costs. Checked the name listed and area listed for obituaries and couldn't find anything besides the fundraiser. Might wait a couple of days, but seems kinda sketch to me.

Obituaries aren't required and even then sometimes they take a few days to post online, assuming they post at all.

Going to second this. Obituaries aren't guaranteed anymore, anon. Not with newspaper circulation being so low these days. I've googled to find obituaries for people I know personally who passed away and couldn't find anything.

Regardless, 10K is a lot for a funeral. Don't donate if you don't want to, it's voluntary.

I once encountered someone who claimed their "friend" was an intersex porn star. At birth, the doctors closed up her vagina, so now her periods were slowly killing her and she couldn't have surgery because she had hemophilia. I told the poster I didn't believe them, and most of the thread got mad at me until I apologized. (I later made it up to the poster by recommending a drug that prevents periods.)

Another poster claimed to be a maid in a mansion in Japan. When she claimed she once killed two intruders with a submachine gun, people stopped believing her.

I sometimes suspected the fedora-wearing theocratic Platonist's polyamorous lovers were actually his alt accounts, but I was never able to prove it.

I also saw a pseuicide once, and someone who went completely off the deep and and started stalking another poster and saying she wanted to skin her, but I wasn't really involved in either of those.

Three, count 'em, THREE wannabe cult leaders who based their cults around channeling fandom characters.

One was Neo from the Matrix, another was alll about Star Wars (I jokingly refer to them as Obi Million Ken-Obi because they had a fucking MILLION versions of Obi-Wan), and the other was... honestly I'm not sure, it might've been some homebrewed Civil War Confederacy religion thing???

ALL of them I met in the space of like, three months tops. Thank GOD they didn't take an interest in me--I know I would've been REALLY suspectible to their type of shit when they met me.

There was a girl who dramatically announced that her boyfriend was dying or some shit. Like, full on LOUD HEAVING emoti-SOBS and all that shit.

Two months later she felt the need to update everyone that he was DECEIVING HER about his TERMINAL ILLNESS and she was SOOOOOOOO ANGRY he could do something like that.

To this day, I don't know if he ever existed, but she was a flipping moron.
