I am stamping out my father's identity.

Because I pointed out that he keeps responding to things I said, as if I had said something completely different. Like he obviously isn't listening to me, but he just assumes I was saying some thing, so he responds like I did say that thing.

But any criticism of him, is trying to force him to be someone else.

It also meant he had to hear me talk for a few seconds. I'm pretty much Hitler by now.

My brother's girlfriend said something similar once. I was home alone for the week and asked if they could call before coming over after they had scared me by showing up out of nowhere (in addition to my anxieties around this sort of thing, I had been taking advantage of the empty house by not being fully dressed out in the living room, so there was a close call while I went to put more clothes on before they made it inside). She started complaining about me trying to control her.

Just stop talking to your dad completely for a couple of years. Like, literally just laugh and walk away every time he tries to rant at, berate, or lecture you about something. Or, if this is not possible at the time, change the topic and continue on as if he'd never said anything at all. I guarantee you that if your description is accurate, everyone else will play right along and be grateful.

He'll get worse for a while but if you don't break, and you encourage others to follow suit, he'll slowly start to change for the better because he realizes it's the only way anyone will listen to him anymore.
