Hey now, don't paint us all with that brush. I admire the younger generation and think they (you) have gotten stuck with a really shitty deal. When I was young, university was much more affordable and while a few of us had small student debts, I didn't know anyone who started out their working life with a debt that would take many years to pay off.

Not directly related, but I cringe every time I go into a coffee house in my city and the sound system is playing boomer music. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of my generation's music (Simon and Garfunkel 4eva etc.) but I dislike how shamelessly my generation is being catered to. Equal time for contemporary music, damn it.

I remember my parents telling me stories about going to their high school reunions, and how sad it was when the subject of music would come up and my parents started talking about all these artists they liked, and their classmates didn't know about any of them, because they didn't seem aware of or care about any music that came out after, like, sometime in the 1980s, at most (my parents graduated in 1975).

Sure, my parents will always love the stuff they grew up with, of course, like anyone would with music from their generation...but they were still aware of and liked music that came out after their time, they didn't close themselves off to anything new just 'cause it wasn't from their generation.

Plus, between my sister and me, they couldn't have avoided any newer music even if they tried or wanted to, so...:p.

Oh man, anon, me and my parents went to the same college, thirty years apart, and for some unfathomable reason, my father kept his tuition receipts.

I saw. I cried. This was a public college, with in-state tuition, I had gotten a scholarship, I blazed through my education in two years instead of four, and I STILL paid way more than double what he did. And I got off EASY, I know folks with a hundred grand in debt!

Seriously, how the hell did tuition cost so little back in y'all's day? HOW???

As I understand it, there used to be generous public subsidies, which Ronald Reagan spent his entire political career working to destroy. When USA right-wingers talk about "big government," this is it, right there. They don't want to pay for post-secondary education.

Gee, thanks Reagan.

Thank goodness Reagan is dead!
