I would be worried about ticks, and mosquitos are just no fun.

If you're not having sex in tall grass or directly beneath low hanging branches, ticks generally aren't a concern. Since they can't actively jump onto their hosts they have to be able to fall onto them or crawl on when they're passing. Aside from that, all insects are incredibly prone to dehydration so they tend to steer clear of areas that are exposed.

Basically, you shouldn't be worried about ticks in clearings or in spaces with sparse vegetation. There's a reason deer favour sleeping in those spots.
