Like, they're not even very close in meaning

Nothing about sympathizing with someone conflicts with separating them from your life because they're toxic to you

What on earth are you talking about? I said that no one had said you have to keep someone abusive in your life if they have BPD, and no one has said that.

I quoted someone who said pretty much exactly that sentiment.

You say they didn't due to semantics. That is "moving the goalposts."

No. You are wrong. Because those are two totally different sentiments. Which was my whole point.

Again, to be completely clear:

"Sympathize with people with BPD" and "Be compassionate and welcoming toward abusive people" are not the same sentiment. They MEAN DIFFERENT THINGS. If it's semantics to point out that they mean substantially different things, then call this semantics, but it seems relevant to point out.

Except it isn't. The sentiment expressed is the exact same one. You're only harping on the semantics because that's all you have left. Once you start arguing about word choice over substance, you've lost. Good night.

Please stop being ridiculous.

If I say that "I killed someone" and "I hugged someone", the only difference between those two sentences is a single word choice, but the meaning is entirely different.

Similarly, in this case, the meaning is different. To sympathize with someone is to understand their emotions and perspective and care for them. To be welcoming towards someone is to let them do certain things and enable them. Again: you can sympathize with someone and still completely cut them out of your life.
