This may sound stupid to you, but I consider my follows to be my To Be Read Again But Not Favorited list. People who have thousands of stories on their "Favourites" don't make sense to me. Favourite sort of loses meaning when it's one of thousands. But following, sure. It doesn't mean I expect it to be updated; I just want to read it again, but not enough to favourite. Just like I think the people who favourite everything are using their favourites list like it's for kudos. Favourite because you can't kudo. Just throwing that out there...

I've always seen FFnet's Favorite as a combo of Ao3's Kudo and bookmarking, while FFnet's Follow seems more like Ao3's Subscribe, so it used to puzzle me that people would follow years'-old oneshots that have been marked as completed.

Now I just assume that if someone both Follows and Favorites a one-shot, they're probably doing that because they like the story enough to Click All the Buttons.

In my case, if I've followed a one-shot, it's because the author stated in an A/N that they're debating whether or not to leave it as a one-shot, so I'll follow in case they do add to it.

Either that, or sometimes I just accidentally clicked that button by mistake :p.

As someone who does have over a thousand stories on my Favourites list, no, there is no guarantee I will ever read all of them again, especially since I have no idea if I will ever return to such fandoms as Transformers or SPN, but I have them there because I like sticking to the spirit of a Favourites list, I'm lazy and don't care to go to the trouble of clearing out the ones I won't read again, and I use browser bookmarks for fics I will return to soon (and if I don't return to them, they eventually get deleted as irrelevant).

Sure, I know that some people use that feature basically as a way to bookmark. OP only referenced reviews/PMs asking for completed stories to be extended, I thought.

And personally I think of my favorites as a list of anything I would rec to someone else. It's not necessarily a reference for rereading, but it's the stories that deserve a little more than a positive review.
