This is me at work too.

I heard someone talking about Babylon 5, which is one of my favorite shows and I would love to talk about irl, I just kept my mouth closed though I could've easily inserted myself into the conversation. I pretend to have no interests at work.

I told one person I liked wrestling and I kind of became a joke, so I don't tell anyone shit anymore.

Yeah, I started up a new job and they don't even know anything about me, except that I have dogs and I stay up late to work on "stuff".

I'd prefer to keep it that way, honestly. They're nice people, but I don't want to explain nerdy stuff to them, ughhhh.

Stuff like this reminds me how lucky I am with my programming job. I'm the resident obsessed fan/geek, but no one really cares about it since it's like, whatever, I'm a programmer. Everyone in the office has specialized interests.

Although I have had to reign it back for other random groups... It's easy to mask though; instead of auto-replying with side character X's name if I want to talk about them, I'll say "oh, wasn't there a character or something that did [insert vague plot relation/thing]" and if they reply with the right name, I'm golden and slide right into discussion. If they have no idea what I'm talking about, I keep the talk light and focused on the main characters only.
