Re: Casual/intense fan awkwardness
We all know I don't have a life, but no one needs to know how much I don't have one, thanks.
Re: Casual/intense fan awkwardness
I heard someone talking about Babylon 5, which is one of my favorite shows and I would love to talk about irl, I just kept my mouth closed though I could've easily inserted myself into the conversation. I pretend to have no interests at work.
I told one person I liked wrestling and I kind of became a joke, so I don't tell anyone shit anymore.
Re: Casual/intense fan awkwardness
I'd prefer to keep it that way, honestly. They're nice people, but I don't want to explain nerdy stuff to them, ughhhh.
Re: Casual/intense fan awkwardness
Although I have had to reign it back for other random groups... It's easy to mask though; instead of auto-replying with side character X's name if I want to talk about them, I'll say "oh, wasn't there a character or something that did [insert vague plot relation/thing]" and if they reply with the right name, I'm golden and slide right into discussion. If they have no idea what I'm talking about, I keep the talk light and focused on the main characters only.
Re: Casual/intense fan awkwardness
(Anonymous) 2016-05-01 03:48 am (UTC)(link)I get too excited, and my level is revealed. I sometimes want to bring up fannish things, including fic, but I never am sure who is into it...so I try to be lowkey fangirl about it.
I did it once, and my friend narrowed her eyes and said I was one of "those people". At least she knew who they were, lol.
