I just wanted to throw in my weird two cents. I'm a lesbian, though it's taken me a while to get there with saying it; I have always gotten off to f/f or het with the focus on the girl. And yet, a lot of the time and despite my sole romantic attraction and desire to be in a relationship with a woman, I typically find f/f quite dull in comparison to m/m for plot and emotive stuff. I don't know if that's more fandom and it's contents influence? I have f/f ships but they rarely excite in me the passion that my slash ships have over the years.

I think stereotypically, f/f and m/m ships tend to have different dynamics. I like overt conflict, violent conflict, and direct aggression in my ships - and you almost always only see that in m/m, never het or f/f. A lot of f/f ships tend to either be like very fluffy and sweet, or involve a lot of pining, or in the yuri category, they always have that oneesan/naive younger girl dynamic. In western stuff, it's all about that Betty and Veronica catty relationship. Or maybe it's just that I like butch women but there are soooo few of them in media. I feel like to get f/f ships I like, I have to genderswap het or m/m ships...
