What is the current obsession over guns, and describing them in such almost sexual detail anyway?

I know that some love the power that comes with owning and using one. Power certainly has a sex appeal to it for some people. And guns do have a rather phallic look to them, though, so I suppose it's not that surprising they'd take on a sexual allure as a result of that, too.

If the fetishing were just relegated to fiction, it'd be creepy, but okay, it's fiction. But given real life tragic events of late, the gun obsession has gone well beyond creepy into downright frightening.

Probably a paranoid manifestation of the "Obama/the government gonna take my guns!!!!!" mindset.

Current? That's always been a thing, at least for my lifetime. Back in the early 90s, there were entire comic books that were just pictures of the Punisher's guns and his personal reviews of them. Not kidding.
