Dresden Files

I just started watching the show and I'm strangely enamored of it? Like, I've never liked that actor before, but as Dresden he talks like a wizard PI, dresses like a bum, and emotes like the biggest bleeding heart in the world. It's really working for me?? I kind of want to take Harry home and feed him cookies?? And I like the cases so far too! I'm on like episode 5

Is the series like the books? Did anyone else like the show? I don't recall what the buzz was about it as it was airing....

There's a show? :o? I read the first book and enjoyed it. I'm just bad at keeping up with series.

I liked the show and the books, so you might like the books. It's a shame the show wasn't continued.

They're kind of different but both good in their own ways? I liked the show a lot. I got into the books first, and definitely didn't try to enjoy the two different things in the same way, just as their own things. :D

Have fun!

(To be fair, though, I stopped reading the books after about six or seven of them. I suspect I'll go back and read more eventually, they're just a sort of thing I only read when I'm in the right mood. They've very intense, IMO.)

I haven't seen the series but I'd say give the books a try. It starts off a little bumpy but hits its stride pretty quick. The only issue for me is that it keeps upping the stakes so the books change from being a series about a funny wizard PI to something a lot more complicated, dark and rather depressing as you get to the later books.

Goid show, gone before its time. Only semirelated to the books, which is okay, because after about five or six it felt like the series was succumbing to Kitchen Sink Syndrome. As in, it was trying to incorporate all paranormal tropes plus the kitchen sink's worth of domestic drama too.

As a huge fan of the books (which you should totally check out), I enjoyed the show for what it was. They're different animals, to be sure, but the show was fun.

+1! The show is way better than the books. Show Harry is actually charming. Book Harry thinks he's charming but is actually a chauvinist asshole throughout. Just like Jim Butcher, actually. The only good thing about the books are a few of the side characters.
