Why is the HIMYM fandom so obsessed with giving Barney and Robin kids? The secrets last week gave me the urge to read some B/R fix-it fics. But nearly every single one had them with kids.

One of the things I loved about canon was that Robin was a woman who didn't want kids, and that was okay. The fact that neither of them wanted kids was one reason the pairing worked well.

One bad thing about the final was that it made it seem like Robin's dreams were wrong and Ted's dreams were ones that should be shared by everyone. Why would a fandom that hates the final still grab onto that message so strongly?

What happened in the final?

Robin got her career, but it led to a divorce from Barney. And yes, it was the divorce, not Barney going back to sleeping around which would have made more sense if they really needed them to break up. Then she drifts apart from the group.

Eventually Tracy, the Mother, dies. The kids tell Ted to go after Robin. He brings the blue French horn to her.

Some of it was subtext, some of it was quite plainly there. But they made it seem as if everyone should want to settle down with kids, as if wanting a career and no kids was wrong (especially if you are a woman) and will lead to losing your marriage and your friends. And in the end Ted gets everything. He gets all the things he wants and then still gets Robin in the end even though she never once returned his feelings once they'd broken up.
