I'm tired of seeing those freaking promposals, where someone has an elaborate proposal for a Very Special Person (read: they have autism, they have Down Syndrome, they're in a wheelchair, etc)

The thing is that I actually get the impression in some cases that it's well-meant, and the kids have no idea they're being patronizing. But I can't help but wonder how many of these "special guests" go to the prom with their "friends" and end up being ditched.

They make me uncomfortable, too. Even if it's well meant, it feels kind of condescending. Oh look, the handsome football player has asked the girl with Downs Syndrome to prom! How magnanimous of him, etc. etc. It reeks of pity date to me and if anyone had done that to me in high school, I probably would've died of embarrassment.

Yeah. I also love how when you say that in the comments, all the people saying they've found Jesus because of the video call you a fucking cynical bitch. Really?

mte and isn't the appeal of being asked to prom that someone finds you attractive? that someone might want to date you? that someone might have romantic feelings for you? take all that away and you're just going to an awkward, overpriced school dance with bad food, knowing you're being asked out to make an "inspirational" video.
