If my boss gets any angrier, he'll turn into the Incredible Hulk. My co-workers mostly mean well, but they keep taking shortcuts and not paying attention, and every time someone in management calls to berate him for their fuck-ups, their rank is higher than the last person who called. We finally got to the point where the president of the company called to berate my boss for something that was entirely a co-worker's fault, and my boss got to the point where he threw boxes at the floor while screaming "FUCK!" at the top of his lungs. I love my boss, and he never takes his anger out on us, but I seriously think he needs to quit and find a job where he's actually respected.

Does he not actually punish people? Some stuff you just don't skimp on.

He writes folks up when they really screw up, but he only fires people when he has a replacement, and the higher-ups refuse to raise our wages to be competitive with the higher minimum wage in a nearby city. Apart from my manager, I'm the only employee from last October who didn't either get fired or quit for a different job.

Your boss sounds like he's forgotten the whole "shit rolls downhill" saying. If he's not keeping his employees in line, then yeah he's going to get the brunt of upper level's ire. Because he might be a nice guy but he's not doing his job.

I'm not sure what else he can try at this point. Talking to us hasn't worked, writing people up hasn't worked, and we're not getting enough qualified applicants to replace anyone right now.

NAYRT - I've been there. I had to put up with a horrible supervisor my boss couldn't fire because there was no one to replace her, and we were screwed without her. But she was horrible.
