Does anyone else accidentally get blood on the bedsheets every few months? Periods aren't entirely predictable and nighttime pads don't always work. Tampons are really unappealing to me. If I catch it right away next morning I can wash it out but that doesn't always happen (or sometimes I don't have time).

I'm replacing my sheets soon (for unrelated reasons) and would like to not have to worry about getting stains on the new ones. Should I just get darker sheets?

you could always try adult diapers

are those expensive? also they seem kinda wasteful. but it might be worth a shot

(I initially typoed that as worth a shit hahahahaha)

i have no idea really but if night pads don't cover enough then diapers almost certainly will if they can keep incontinent old people beds dry

That happens to me every time I get my period (Why must you insist on sleeping on your back, body?)

What I usually do is put an old bath towel that I don't care about getting stained down on the sheet before I go to bed.

I should try that!

Ironically, I always fall asleep on my stomach and don't feel comfortable laying on my back while falling asleep at all, but often roll over in the night.

seconding the bath towel.

The only issue is how you spread it out because if you move a lot when you sleep, then the towel might move too and end up being useless, so test this out on a day when you aren't counting on it.

Yes, I either use a towel or a cruddy dark pair of shorts that I'll never wear out in public again.

Dark sheets!

I have a protector over my mattress anyway so I can wash that if it goes through, but I just live in black pants/sheets/underwear during periods. No need to constantly check for leaks and everything is washable.

Yeah I do avoid light colored pants during period time and try to wear black underwear too.

See, I go for white sheets because then I can bleach them.

Does bleach work after the blood has sat for a while? if so that might be worth considering.

If I catch it right after I get up, soak it for a bit in cold water, and then wash it, it comes right now. but if bleaching it extends the window of treatment...that's worth thinking about.

It works for me. I use cold water because hot water will make the blood set in and harder to remove. I soak it in cold water and then add bleach. It hasn't failed me so far.

I don't even think I have bleach. Probably why I own a lot of things that were formerly white.

It is pretty good for cleaning too, as long as you are careful. It is a wonder for getting up mold.

I just hate the fumes. My laundry and bathroom are both windowless for some unknown reason.

Ew, yes, I totally get that. You have to be careful. There are some good cleansers that have just a bit of bleach in them. I usually just make my own with a tiny bit of bleach in water. No need to overdo it, but nothing seems to work better for some things.

I may have to give that a try. Due to the previously mentioned lack of windows, the absence of sunlight and fresh air, and the weird shape of my sink I get a nice little patch of slime that just keeps coming back because this one spot just never dries. So frustrating.

Eucalyptus all purpose cleaner does pretty much everything else but I can't get this fucker to stay gone for more than a few days. I went away once and it grew a slime tentacle. *shudder*

Yes, also with irregular periods. I honestly prefer darker sheets out of that paranoia. Sometimes when I do get warning, ongoing pms symptoms beforehand, I'll wear full underwear and old pj pants and put a towel underneath me at night in case.

mine aren't super irregular, just not an exact cycle so they start in like a weeklong window rather than on a particular day. I do wear sweats and sometimes shorts under them to bed when I'm on or expecting it but sometimes I lose count of the days and it takes me by surprise, especially if the PMS is mild that month (of course there would have to be a drawback to milder PMS, lol).

(Anonymous) 2016-05-03 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I sleep on a towel for the length of my cycle. I have one towel I use for thi purpose so I can bleach the hell out of it.

Periods are the worst.

Sometimes we just need a maxi pad as thick as a diaper for a few days.

Unfortunately for me it's less about the thickness and more about the surface area, since I tend to roll over when I sleep. :/
