I'm starting to agree with the quieter but persistent perception that as time goes on, a particular celebrity I've liked and respected since fairly early in their career is getting more fake and obviously distanced.

Which is only a mild frustration, because that's the Hollywood game. I have no doubt some of the 'fakeness' and distance (they used to be quite close with fans) is what's necessary not only to survive the industry but some of the weirder fans.

Eh, whatever.

Fans can be scary; I can definitely understand wanting some distance/safety from the fandom at times. Any fandom!

If you were expected to be unfailingly warm and lovely and tirelessly giving of yourself every time you stepped out of your front door, wouldn't you become a little fake and distant as time went on?
