While I doubt JLaw was able to *force* the directors to do anything, having Mystique spend most of the time appearing human kind of shits all over her characterization in the X-Movies, unless there's some hella good justification for it.

Unfortunately, once an actor/actress gets famous and can easily get other roles (which JLaw can) AND that character is central to the films, the directors/producers are more likely to change things around to please the actress. X-Men 2 was partially rewritten to please Halle Berry (whose stardom had increased and she wanted to be a larger part of the plot).
