Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
On the contrary, I think he's going to take it all the way to the general and if he wins he's going to be a very different president than all the fuckheads who voted for him are expecting.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

So you think he's a secret liberal?

What evidence do you have? The fact that he lived in New York City?

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
You must be the evidence-demanding anon from above. I'll give you the same answer: Gut feeling. Bye now.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
You are going to vote for Donald Trump on the gut feeling that he's a secret liberal, and you're going to act like I'm being ridiculous?

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Please point to where I said I was going to vote for Trump. Oh, right. You can't, because I didn't.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Why aren't you going to vote for him, given that you think he's actually very liberal?

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
1. I don't think he's "very liberal." That's a phrase YOU started tossing around. I just don't think he's actually a moronic nutjob who would follow through on the rhetoric he's currently using to make gains.

2. I like candidates that don't have to "secretly" be anything.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
On reread of thread, I can see where not refuting you outright could lead to confusion.

But this idea of "if you think he's liberal why wouldn't you vote for him?" implies a child's understanding of the world.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"He's going to be a very different president" could reasonably construed that he's going to have different political views. In the context of you speaking approvingly of him, and talking about how you're not afraid of him being elected (which I read as saying that he wouldn't be that bad of a president), it's easy to assume that you and he share political views. On F!S, it's reasonable to assume that would mean that you think he has liberal views. However, his stated positions are the opposite of liberal, which means he would be a secret liberal.

I apologize for the chain of assumptions if they were wrong. But I'm now even more mystified of what you think of Trump and why you're talking positively about him.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know where you're reading this font of positivity from, so I don't know to respond. All I can say is the Trump on display is so far, far, far right-wing that if he ends up just being moderate, or even to the right of moderate, that's still very different from the sort of things we're seeing. And I think what we're seeing is him playing to the lowest common denominator of the GOP electorate, because it's sadly a very large group.

And while I may be liberal, I'm not afraid of moderate conservatism. Does that mean I want him in the White House? No. But I don't think a Trump presidency will usher in the end times, either.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Do you honestly think that everyone that hasn't vilified the man as the actual devil is going to vote for him? Like, there's no grey area in your head? There's no "he could be a lot worse, idk" Democratic voters in your world?

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
No. I'm responding to the actual line of argumentation here, which is that he's a secret liberal, because I think it's incredibly pernicious and untrue. You're right, it was incorrect of me to say that anon was going to vote for Trump - although if Trump is a secret liberal, I'm not sure why anon WOULDN'T vote for Trump, so it's hardly offensive.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
The argument wasn't that he was "a secret liberal" until you made it one. I just failed to shut that down. My bad.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. He's trolling both the GOP establishment and the progressive left, and he's picking up a lot of moderates along the way who are fed up with both.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how anyone could be sick of the GOP establishment and the progressive left both and not also be sick of Trump, unless maybe they were sick of the GOP establishment for not going far enough in their fight against the evil brown poor gay people and hated all left-leaning people on principle.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm a moderate liberal, lifelong Democrat, and I want to vote for Bernie. But if it's a choice between Trump or Hillary, I'll strongly consider voting for Trump. I'm tired of both the GOP and Dem establishment. Both take massive amounts of money from corporations and refuse to compromise. I doubt Trump is much better - he IS those corporations - but I also don't believe he will single-handedly destroy the US as we know it because there are many constitutional safeguards in place to prevent that. But I do believe voting for him sends a message. You see, I'm mostly really, really fed up with my fellow Democrats trying to tell me what I can and cannot think, say, or do and demonizing me when I dare express an opinion outside the progressive hivemind. I'm disgusted by the illiberalism I see in the left, to the point that I have to question what I'm even doing on the left anymore. The left has become an angry, violent mob. FFS, they're threatening riots if Trump is elected. This is not the party I know and support, and I've had it. Trump supporters are no better, it's true. They're vile racists, many of them, but some are disaffected liberals just like me. But by all means, continue to spit vitriol at us, label us, call us stupid, etc. You're only making it easier for us to jump ship, and if Trump wins despite a huge portion of the GOP campaigning against him, maybe Democrats will do some soul-searching. But I won't hold my breath.

It'll "send a message" that you strongly support conservative politics and was only pretending to care about Bernie's positions.

Which, if that's the message you want to send, good luck ensuring that none of Bernie's policies ever actually happen.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

If my fellow Democrats insist on being that willfully blind to the toxic elements of our party and the growing number of disillusioned liberals, then so be it.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You ARE the toxic element in our party. You're the nihilistic one who cares more about "sending a message" than supporting a cause. You're the one willing to flush everything you believe in down the toilet because your narcissistic "tired of the establishment" bullshit is worth more to you than any of your causes

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, then be glad you're rid of me and those like me, I guess.

Re: I'm not afraid of Trump...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
And be glad for yourself, selling out everything and everyone you pretend to care about in order to feed your narcissistic desire for attention. have fun pushing the country further and further to the right while pretending that eventually it'll come full circle and end up on the left again.
