Does anyone else...

(Anonymous) 2016-05-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thread to see if anyone does or feels that one thing you do.

Feel guilty when they take time off work or don't do voluntary overtime? I planned on taking tomorrow off (after skipping lunches and such) but my boss suddenly offered overtime to the whole office. I don't want to go into work (I'd earn like $100) but I feel really guilty about not going in to make some money.

No, like, being able to get free time is my main criterion in getting a job (more so even than wage).

Not at all. I rework my schedule so I can take advantage of all of the vacation days they give me. I have to work 40 hours in a week minimum so I will work extra hours or whatever in order to be able to leave early.

Will that money make or break you? I try always have enough leeway room. Plus at my full time job, I don't get paid for overtime, so I try not to work extra hours.

Hell no.

Having a job is great, but so is a long needed break meant for relaxing and recharging.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with working overtime, as long as it were something you were already wanting to do (spouse's b-day coming up and you want to make extra money to get them an awesome gift, for instance). I just don't think it's worth sacrificing plans you already made for yourself.

Yes. I even feel guilty for taking off when I'm sick.

Better you stay home than risk getting the office sick.

Same. I feel like if I'm not dying I should go to work.

Not really. I mean, sure, I feel a little bad that the other people are going to be stuck doing the work, and I'll be out a few extra bucks, but I do have a life outside of work. I have to tend to that once in awhile too.

Plus, while I don't mind taking overtime occasionally, I don't want them to think I'm available ALL the time, and start getting pissy and petty (You know, doing the whole "I'm cutting your hours then, so nyeah!" thing) when I say I can't do it.

want to send postcards to the personalities/people involved in Star Wars making who ever made a joke/referenced stormpilot in one way or another? It would say something like "welcome to the club" with like a cute stormpilot fanart sticker they could put on their car or whatever.

Want to get a penpal, but is unsure about websites doing this, as you don't actually know who's on the other end...

Have you tried PostCrossing? I think they have forums where you can get penpals, and I've gotten a few penpals through it without trying, because people I sent postcards to sent me back postcards.

I'd love to have a pen pal. I have a lot of cards and stationary sets, but no one to send them to.

Clean dishes while they cook?

According to my family, this is strange. I don't know, the last thing I want to do after dinner is take care of what feels like a landfill-sized pile of dishes. Sometimes you have to, but I at least clean the basic stuff.

Nah, my family has always cleaned dishes as we cook.

When I used to make more complex stuff, sure. Just scraped or rinsed the food off and stuck them in the dishwasher while something else was cooking or whatever so my bench space was clear. It's way easier than trying to work around dishes or use the sink when it's full of dirty stuff.

It depends on how things are going, but I often find cleaning as I go to be more efficient than waiting till the end. Especially if I can just do it real quick while waiting for something to finish cooking or whatever.

My dad and I do that. My mom and brother are in the 'use every dish and then do them after' camp, which drives us nuts because the rule in our house was always, "He who doesn't cook, cleans." Which means they end up with one dish to wash and we end up with the whole kitchen. XD

But if I share my feelings Herpy will descend on me to tell me it's all my fault based off no revealing details what so ever.

Thank whatever deities you worship after praying?

I know this may sound stupid, but I do. Not because I think I have to, I just do. I'm confident God laughs at me. :P
