Wait... I have to ask: you know how to hold your breath, right?

I can't jump into the water without holding my nose (I hate the sensation of water going up it and I can't breathe through my nose so I literally can't exhale out through it as I enter the water to prevent it, but once I'm under the water I'm fine. >.>

I can't breathe through my nose

W-what?! Like, normally you can't? D:

:( I can't. I have a slightly deviated septum AND I'm asthmatic so whenever I try I just start gasping for air after more than one or two breaths. It sucks because it means when I sleep I always wake up with cracked/dry lips.

Oh jeez. Sorry to hear about that anon. That truly sucks.

I hope there's a surgical option.

Yes. :) But the water goes up my nose unless I hold it shut or breathe out all my air hard through my nose.

I mean, I know I must be doing something wrong, that's why ~everyone else can do it except me!

You basically either just breathe your air out really slowly and/or push it out just enough to hold the water 'at bay'. It takes practice, and if you're freaked about water up your nose at all/uneasy being underwater, it's hard to do. But it's the only way i know how to do it, and can't imagine swimming any other way.

We used these when I did synchronized swimming. Very handy!
