most people would react negatively to rape fetishes, there's no need to be puritan

there's a reason it's a niche fetish

It's actually not a niche fetish by any stretch of the imagination.

Varying degrees of non-consent and consent play is one of the most popular kinks there is, according to a recent study of sexual behaviours (which I believe was done by U of Toronto?). Irl this usually translates to bdsm scenes and roleplaying rather than actually involving any true non-consensual behaviours.

It's pretty easy to parse, honestly. Fantasy rape generally isn't remotely similar to real rape; it just acts as a vehicle for circumventing personal feelings of guilt or shame when it comes to sex (if it's "forced", then it's not "your fault" for wanting or enjoying a sexual encounter). Hence why 90% of what can be termed "rape fantasies" aren't scary, evil things... they're usually just kinks that come about from people attempting to deal with their own sexual repression.

Guilt and shame is part of it, also the idea that someone would be so crazy with desire for you that they couldn't control themselves. And there are plenty of people who enjoy the fantasy and wouldn't even want to practice BDSM or roleplaying in real life.

AYRT has a very poor understanding of how sexual fantasy works. Or perhaps they're overcompensating for their own "problematic" fantasies.
