Feel free to play along and fact check any of this.

Let's look at dmm.com, the largest sales site for Japanese-language live action porn. Let's use the tag M男 - in other words, where the male is submissive. An initial search results in over 18,000 hits. That's more bdsm, of course. Where the woman is simply dominant is referred to as 痴女. That's another 15,000. So 33,000 titles, with some overlap.

Let's compare that to another "niche" genre: scat. Entering スカトロ yields 1,604. That's comparable to other niche tags, like strangulation or farts.

So we've established that not only is femdom not sparse compared to "literally any other kind of genre out there" it's a full order of magnitude more popular than "niche" genres.

Let's compare that to the number of titles for something not even remotely niche: 巨乳　- big tits. 47,000 titles. That's barely over 50% more than the supposedly "smaller than any other genre" femdom. It's not even double the amount. It's not even triple the amount of the hardcore BDSM-style dominatrix porn. And yet it's quite literally one of the most sought after tags. It's comparable to the number of titles - 35,000 - with 中出し - creampie. It's almost double the amount - 18,000 - of 女子校生 - schoolgirl.

Go on, tell me creampies and schoolgirls are tiny sparse niches.

It overlaps with teen in Western porn, yep. Teen is a wildly popular genre... but so are "MILF" and "mature". Japanese porn doesn't have a separate "teen" category; it's usually coded "schoolgirl" or "JK" ("joshikosei") and then specified whether or not she's in "uniform" whereas "schoolgirl" in Western porn means, specifically, a teen in uniform most of the time.
