I'm doing my best to even the playing field where I can in fanworks (my OTP feels like they could easily switch roles and enjoy switching fairly often!) and have the female character in the dominant position, but you would (not) be surprised with how much backlash I get for it.

It's like people can't appreciate YKINMK or the idea of a powerful man on his knees and loving every second of it.

For the sake of morbid curiosity, do you have any specific examples or comments of the backlash you get?

AYRT. Oh it's not like "go die in a fire, n00b" or anything like that. I get a lot of "ugh" and "no, this is gross, he would never do that". 99% is just pushback from people who don't understand that I don't Clockwork Orange them into reading and say up front what the fic will contain.

However, the most absurd one called me trash because it was "written so OOC" and that they were going to report me and block me on AO3 for daring to make the male character so disgusting. (I laughed, honestly. Good luck, kiddo)
(for your morbid curiosity, they specifically referred to a MMF threesome fic, a MC-gets-spanked-by-the-FC fic, and the fact that I dared to write menstrual kink that didn't pull any punches. Twice. I mean... it's not like any of this will actually be addressed in canon so.......)
