This seems fine and normal?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What's worse is if you have a kid people expect you to like the kid version of shows you normally watch. I like and love my kid but most other kids are armpits stains. So I feel ya OP.

A lot of people feel this way, especially around here. You're not alone.

I, personally, prefer the kid version because it's not as back-stabbery...

I agree for the most part. First, I'm generally not interested in watching kids. Second, I watch those shows to watch talent. And most of the time, the kids just don't have the same talent as adults who have trained in the field.

That being said, I did enjoy Project Runway Junior because it was teens and they seemed genuinely talented and interested in fashion careers.

I prefer the kid version of all these shows because the kids are nicer. Ironically, they act a lot more mature than most of the adult competitors do - they aren't dicks to their fellow competitors, and they don't act like the judges must be wrong if they don't win a round.

+1

I'd bet this is because kids being cute and polite is appealing whereas with adults the show generates and capitalizes on drama for sensationalism.

(I may be a bit cynical about reality TV)

I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head.

The producers will edit and cut the footage to set up these effects. Like even if the adults get along 90% of the time, that's not what they're going to show you. The only one of these I watch is Project Runway... but you can totally tell they're being asked leading questions when speaking to the camera.

Exactly. When I'm in a drama mood, I watch the regular version.

If I want to see sweetness and true good sportsmanship to make me feel all warm and fluffy inside, I watch the "Junior" version.

So much this.

This, exactly. I watched some of Masterchef Junior and didn't expect to care for it but instead, I was so entertained.

Same! Conflict and drama aren't my thing. I love watching the kids cooperate though.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen any of these. They just don't appeal to me for some reason. I think it may be the sort of pitting kids against one another. I'm all for competition, but in the adult versions of the shows there is so much drama and sometimes really cutthroat actions by the competitors.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't really do that to the young ones, some of them even help each other out.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I can't watch them because I can't stand to see kids cry.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
HDU Masterchef Junior is adorbs.

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2016-05-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
These kind of shows aren't usually my thing, but I've recently gotten into Masterchef Junior. I don't care for kids, but damn if they aren't really talented and adorable (I can't cook, what they do is magic to me.) But I mostly watch it because I like the idea that Gordon Ramsey, usually known as a hot-tempered man, is like super sweet to these children and it makes me go d'awww.

You should see him in the behind the scenes stuff with the kids. He is super-duper awesome to them, and so supportive.

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2016-05-11 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! I'll have to try and find those. Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Is Sarah Gellar on Chopped Junior now? I don't know what's going on with her.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of the same. I watched the first season of MasterChef Junior, and even though it wasn't bad, I have no desire to watch any of the other ones.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I hate the Chopped one because they're always such smug bastards. I want to smack the condescending little shithead vibe out of them and that makes me feel horrible because they're KIDS! Wanting to smack the condescending adult shitheads on regular Chopped is guilt-free!

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 11:10 am (UTC)(link)

I don't like kids very much.
