I'm just really hoping Friday's surgery is successful. Because I can't function like this. I'm sick of pain, I'm sick of taking painkillers, and I'm suck of being unable to do anything. If the surgery doesn't work, I honestly don't know what I'm going to do.

Also, I'm annoyed at my doctor. Over the years, I've tried many migraine meds, and my previous primary care and I figured out that Vicodin is the one thing that seems to work for me. Only my current primary care is uncomfortable with prescribing pain killers and so he switched me to something else without asking me. Something my insurance doesn't cover.

Switching meds without asking you???? what. the. fuck.

Can you get a new PCP?

Also, best of luck with your surgery and please let us know how it goes. You deserve to live without constant pain. <3

Sadly, can't switch until I get a job. He's our family doctor and gives us a discount. He's mostly good, he's just really uncomfortable with prescribing painkillers. Which, on the one hand I get. But on the other hand I actually do need them.

Thanks.

Yeah but switching without telling you is just completely unacceptable IMO. And honestly, you need and deserve a doc who can give you what you need to function. It's not like you're using them recreationally (at least I assume you're not).

It's easy to be uncomfortable with painkillers if you've never had chronic pain, I suppose. (For full disclosure I have not had chronic pain but I have had and still have chronic depression and any doc saying he was "uncomfortable" prescribing me the meds I need to function as a normal human being would not be my doc for long. Here's hoping you get a job and a new doc soon!)

I don't know why he was so uncomfortable. Maybe the fact that I'm on two different ones? I have tramadol for cramps because of my other health issues that will hopefully be fixed on Friday. And vicodin for the migraines. It isn't even like I take them every day. I only take them when I have pain that is too bad for me to function. Maybe he freaked out because I said I was coming off a 4 day migraine?

Oh man, four day migraines! D: At least mine only last for like two! (And I'm lucky, the pain isn't very bad, maybe 3 or 4 at most.) But still, four solid DAYS of that... D: I'm sorry!

Dafuq. You can't just switch someone's prescription without consulting them.

This is the kind of thing you need to report to medical authorities. He can't reasonably have any idea if you're using that medication for offlabel uses, or if it's even safe for you to suddenly switch over to something else given your circumstances.

Find out where to report malpractice in your state and do something about this.

+1 it doesn't hurt to investigate your options at least.

Forgot to mention that if he's going around changing your prescriptions without a consult, then my worry is that he's doing the same thing to other people who also might be relying on that medication. It's one thing to be vigilant about who you're giving narcotics to, but it's another entirely to just go around pulling people off them cold turkey.

Not okay.
