YEP.

I mean, L's death scene was KICKASS. It was super well done and amazing.

The problem was that the series really lost momentum after that. I think some of the stuff ~five years later~ is kind of interesting - mainly Light, he's always interesting, and how the world's changed. But Near and Mello were awful because the author clearly wanted to make them quirky like L and reminiscent of L and that just made them second-rate L's.
