Death Note and L's death. My interest promptly dropped to 0. I thought they had made their point with the series adequately, and had no need for all those other chapters. We got the point. Finish it.

omg preach

they should've ended the series after L's death, everything became crap after that... it would have been a bleak, unjust ending but it would've been a million times better than what we got

I'm convinced they had to keep going because they were forced to

I would have been happy if L had died, then you find out he had some sort of plot in place that helped idk Matsuda bring down Light, Light dies, the end. Wrapup in 2 chapters.

But even your version would have been better.

You should check out the live action movies then. They're far from perfect but I do love the movie ending so much better that the original one.

I dropped it, but then went back to read the last chapter just to watch Light die. I don't think I missed much.

YEP.

I mean, L's death scene was KICKASS. It was super well done and amazing.

The problem was that the series really lost momentum after that. I think some of the stuff ~five years later~ is kind of interesting - mainly Light, he's always interesting, and how the world's changed. But Near and Mello were awful because the author clearly wanted to make them quirky like L and reminiscent of L and that just made them second-rate L's.

Same. I kept reading it because someone at my library really liked it and the new volumes were always on the new releases shelf, but reading it kinda felt like a chore. I really wanted L to be the one who brought Light down.

I suspect 90% of the DN readership felt the same.

Reading Death Note after L died was a bit like... idk... the entire appeal of it was that it was Light AND L. Not just one or the other, but both of them together as friends and rivals.
