Re: Getting rid of this character ruined the show

I can't believe no one has mentioned Mulder yet. I mean, DD left, rather than the show getting rid of him, but still, S8 was where the show well and truly lost its way.

(Personally, I think S8 could have been awesome with Scully being the sole lead and pulling out all the stops looking for Mulder, and confronting MOTWs, and just generally being a bamf. But alas, CC appears to have had no fucking idea how to write her when he couldn't just conceptualize her as Mulder's foil. So yeah.)

Show had been going downhill already.

S6 and S7 were kind of stale, I agree about that. But they were still fundamentally The X-Files. The show only truly went off the rails in S8 though.

I don't agree with that. I think the best thing the show ever did was to let Mulder go. The worst thing it ever did was to bring him back. When I first watched the series I went into the 8th season fully expecting to hate it but it ended up being my favourite season of them all. If only they hadn't ruined it the show with thosee ridiculous super soldiers.

DA

YMMV and all, but you are severely in the minority on this. At the time, S8 was a massive disappointment to a huge majority of the fandom.

The idea that Mulder leaving was a good thing for the show is...just such a weird concept. Like, it's pretty much anathema to the vast majority of the fandom.
