I don't agree with that. I think the best thing the show ever did was to let Mulder go. The worst thing it ever did was to bring him back. When I first watched the series I went into the 8th season fully expecting to hate it but it ended up being my favourite season of them all. If only they hadn't ruined it the show with thosee ridiculous super soldiers.

YMMV and all, but you are severely in the minority on this. At the time, S8 was a massive disappointment to a huge majority of the fandom.

The idea that Mulder leaving was a good thing for the show is...just such a weird concept. Like, it's pretty much anathema to the vast majority of the fandom.
