Aw, you don't like Stiles calling Derek 'Der'? A nickname I can't imagine anyone using for the name Derek ever?

In other words, I agree wholeheartedly. I actually stopped reading a fic recently because the author had one character using an overly excessive amount of pet names.

I'm not fond of it either but my brother's name is Eric and his girlfriend sometimes calls him Er (like "air"). I could see her calling him Der if he was a Derek too.

I mean IRL if a person is ok with it it's fine...though one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is when people give me a pet name based on my real name without asking me if it's OK. It really skeeves me out (and I hate the way most people shorten my name, too).

According to the internet, the nicknames for Derek are "Derry," "Des," and "Rick". Then again that was someone named Derek on Yahoo Answers desperately trying to find a nickname they could use for themselves.

I personally, don't mind Rick.

Really? I have never heard it or read it until the TW fandom. It's not even how you say the name! I mean - Der-ek, at least you get a 'Der' in Derek. But there is no 'Lo' in Laura.

My best friend's little sister was called Lowie by her family for a long time, sometimes shortened to Lo and they still call her that a lot. I've been hearing it since I was 13 so I forgot how weird it might seem to other people.
