What have you seen that cannot be unseen?

As I said on the front page, 'Der' for Derek. It is just...so stupid. It sounds like a nickname a baby would use because they can't say the whole name yet.

Audibly, Der doesn't bother me any more than Steve or Chris, because it sounds like Dare (or Bear, for Barry, over on The Flash) but seeing it written like Der and Bar sets my teeth on edge.

I've seen a few Wincest fics where Sam and/or Dean will call each other "love" (or, worse somehow, "my love") and it cracks me up. On what planet???

If Dean was going to use any nickname, it would 100% be 'Baby'. For Sam, probably 'Sammy' though.

Mairon calling Melkor Mel will never not feel wrong to me. Melkor I can see using possessive nicknames. Mairon, though, calls him Melkor or Master or My Lord.

Leggy for Legolas is one I've actually seen.

"Kat" for Quatre from Gundam Wing. Seeing that in fic is an immediate back the fuck out.

Dean Winchester as "De" is up there. Also the weird (brief? my tenure in the HP fandom was short and long ago) insistence that everyone calls Hermione "'Mione."

Less offensive, still annoying--nobody ever calls Steve Rogers "Stevie"! No, not even Bucky "my name sounds like a teddy bear's so what've I got to lose" Barnes!

De? What's the point of a nickname that shortens the number of letters in a name but not the number of syllables?

Stevie...i'm okay with if we're talking 'just met him' Steve and Bucky as pre-teens, or maybe Ma Rogers calling him that when he's little.

Maybe it slipping out while Bucky is under a drug/ptsd/trauma induced haze or something. But not in bed. And not in front of the Avengers.

i dont read that much hp fanfics but one time i was reading this really well-written fanfic and the plot was intriguing but then draco and hermione were best friends and he started calling her 'mione. what?? i mean i kept on reading it because like i said the plot pulled me in but their interactions were so bizarre to me.

Rhodey Rhodes has never and never would call Tony "Tones," except to hurt him?? Please stop

Clarity: when I say "to hurt him," I mean because they are best friends in the world and he has a duty to make Tony's life a living hell, not in some sadomasochistic/otherwise dark capacity

yeah I know it's canon he feels replaced by him... but like he doesn't use it as a name for Tim.

also any of the batboys using "babybird" that's doesn't bother me as much if it's used with extreme moderation
