It's an overpriced game and OP either pirates it or has too much money to spend on games. *bitter anon who can't afford it*

It's only like $20. It's not any more overpriced than any other game...like you mentioned, it's even piratable, so why the bitter?

Anon might suffer from exchange rates and take issue with pirating. It's more like $40 for me except I have no qualms with pirating most things.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just that the game is rather short for the price and the visuals are so-so. I'd pirate it but I try to support game developers and I'll feel guilty. So I'm conflicted over this. You're right though, it's silly to feel bad about the game I haven't played.

What game is this?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Magical Diary

(no subject)

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
with all the content it has, it's well worth the price IMO.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
It has a fair amount of content, and is pretty replayable, which makes the ~$20 ticket price rather reasonable.

It also goes on sale with some regularity.

I don't know the context for this, but ever since Katawa Shoujo's "manly picnic," I've thought it would be kind of funny for a romance game to have a "none of them" route where you hang out and chill with the best friend character.

The character there, Virginia, is one of the romance options in Magical Diary.

She's the hardest of the primary romances (Big Steve is harder, because he's got a more specific chain of events, but he's not one of the primary paths) to get, but she is getable as a romantic partner (albeit one who doesn't want sex, and isn't sure if she'd be up for doing it for her partner's sake).

There is a sort of 'none of the above' option - Ellen and Virginia both have 'best friend' endings (Donald might, too, but I haven't gotten it), but those aren't wholly separate from the romantic paths (though you can get one of them as Best Friend while pursuing someone else if their likes aren't contrary).

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
How so?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind if the character is asexual because I don't really care about sex when I play those kinds of games tbh, but having an aromatic character as a dating option would kind of defeat the purpose of...starting a romance with a character so I kind of agree with you on that one

[personal profile] caerbannog 2016-05-15 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? Plenty of ppl are okay with romancing ace ppl. Maybe the player is also ace? Maybe they just don't care? You don't have to romance her o_O how is that unfair to you?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You might want to consider actually reading something in full before commenting. She said the character is "aro/ace" meaning no romantic attraction at all (going by what OP claims though. No idea what the game plot is here). That would defeat the purpose if the point of the game is to be a dating sim.

Usually when a / is used between two things it is to indicate either/or. Especially considering Virginia is (seen as) asexual but not aromantic (people are welcome to see her that way, but it's not a stated bit of canon).

So, comment still stands.

I dig the hair.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm aro/ace, and I get romancing an asexual character but...aromantic? What? That doesn't make sense.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
...She's not aromantic. "Let's take this one day at a time because I'm not sure where I'm comfortable going with this" =/= aromantic.

Aw, I actually think it's cute and am glad to see ace people in a game! ^_^ I'm ace myself, and while I'm not romantic, I'm happy to see my romantic peeps get a game shout out! :D And she's so cute!

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's only unfair if you consider the only worthwhile relationships to be explicitly sexual. I know that there are people who complain about those sorts in games with romance options (like in Dragon Age: Inquisition, people were annoyed that a couple of romances were presented as "chaste" when they really just omitted the obvious fade-to-black and left them up to interpretation), but it's kind of ridiculous to me. I mean, for one, it's a game. Unless it's a dating simulator, romance is typically a side dish/optional content. Also, it's a game. If you can't handle a couple of video game romances, out of the large number that now exist, not being explicitly sexual then I think you probably need to examine yourself.

"If you can't handle a couple of video game romances, out of the large number that now exist, not being explicitly sexual"

What? It seems that's the opposite of OP's problem.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm ace and in a long-term relationship. I guarantee I'd be romanceable if I was a companion in a video game.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"AROMANTIC/asexual character." Ain't about you all the time, mate. Read something next time before hoping on the "talk about yourself without reading OP's words" bandwagon.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-17 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
The best characters are always the ones that don't have routes. Visual novel logic.
