It's fine if you're more entertained by Stephen Colbert the character - I personally am not, I think the gimmick was getting threadbare - but I'm not sure what you mean by saying that we NEED the character. It's not like fake news is going to make a material difference in the conduct of the election cycle. And if you just need snark as a coping mechanism, it's not like that's gone away.

Things like The Daily Show and etc have inspired thousands of young people to get interested in voting. Honestly, it's like it does a better job than the rock the vote campaign. And OP isn't the only one who thinks we need Colbert. It would be nice to have Jon still around so he can mock this mess of an election we have.
