No, I didn't. I said he might have done. As might anyone, but white guys from his generation have been letting me down left and right lately and I wanted to know if he was still as cool as I thought he is.

I wasn't saying he must have done something. I wanted to know if he had.

Different phrasing might have been helpful. Something like:

"I've been listening to this guy Brian Blessed and he seems cool, but I don't know much about him and I've been burned a lot recently by being a fan of celebrities who turn out to be awful people, so I'm gun-shy. Anyone know anything about him I ought to know?"

Leave age, race, and gender out if it. That doesn't just imply that certain groups ought to be automatically considered suspect, but that others ought to be considered "safe."
