I personally don't believe in past lives, but my best friend does. She's sure she's had lots of past lives and she thinks I have to because I like to read old diaries and letters. She's convinced I must've lost someone during a war in a past life and that I'm still searching for them.

I'm sure your best friend is sweet but she's a little... wow. It's a bit weird she can't grasp that people might be interested in looking over old diaries and letters because they're interesting in and of themselves. I take it she's never heard of historians or archivists.

Yeah, have to agree with above anon. Your friend sounds a little intellectually uncurious, so she assumes everyone else is the same way. Hence you couldn't possibly have a genuine interest in old papers unless there's some spooky woo woo thing going on. Which is kind of sad, tbh.
