This is such a weird argument. How is "they might have grown up with different values" an excuse for bigotry when growing up with particular values is what perpetuates bigotry in the first place? You wouldn't let that be a man's excuse for treating women as inferior, would it? No, you'd ask him to take responsibility for his stance even if it's not entirely his fault he has it.
