Re: Past lives

I don't want to say I absolutely for sure in no way believe in them but, I most likely don't? I don't know.

My parents' female neighbor claims she was a male solider in the Civil War, and that she first realized it when she was a little kid. She'll describe "memories" she has of it, but I think her parents probably just watched a lot of war movies when she was growing up or something.

There is one time when I was a kid that we went to some historical house somewhere on vacation (I have no idea what/where it was; we went to a bunch of similar places when I was younger) and the second I stepped foot inside it I felt like I'd been there before, though I hadn't. There've been a couple other times where things seemed really familiar to me even though they shouldn't.

I think for me, though, the most likely explanation is that I read a ton, and I have ever since I learned how to read. The historical house probably closely matched the description of some house I'd read about, and the events that have seemed familiar are probably things I've read about before. That might not be the real explanation, but it's the best one I can think of.

I do sometimes feel like places have energies, though. Even though I don't entirely believe in supernatural things, I really love ghost stories and "haunted" things and exploring abandoned creepy places and stuff. And I've been to some places that I felt a "haunted" vibe from, just a really weird energy that I can't completely describe, and other places that were theoretically "haunted" that I didn't feel bad or negative energy from at all. It probably has more to do with what kind of mood I was in at the time and my mental state than anything else, but it was still weird.

And there have been times where I've been places that seemed perfectly safe but something was setting off alarm bells in my head that it was dangerous and I needed to get the hell out NOW, so that was strange, but I think that's probably more of an intuition thing, that some part of my brain picked up on something that WAS dangerous without me even consciously realizing it, and that's why I got that feeling.

Anyway, mostly, I think brains are just super weird.

This is an odd example, but: the other day I was watching a show, and there was a song playing in the background that I briefly wondered what it was, but I didn't think I recognized it. A couple seconds later I decide I need a drink, pause the DVR and while I'm in the kitchen I find myself singing a song I hadn't heard or thought of in years and wonder why it popped into my head. I go back, continue watching the show, and when the song that was playing gets to the chorus, I realize I do know it, it's just that this version is a cover and I didn't realize at first what it was. And the original is by the same artist who sang the song I was humming in the kitchen, that seemed to come into my brain out of nowhere. So I guess on a subconscious level my brain knew what the song was, and it reminded me of one of the singer's other songs.
