Re: controversial opinions thread

I agree with this.

I also don't agree with the popular opinion that demisexuality doesn't need a word because not being sexually attracted to someone until you're in love with them is considered the social norm or expectation (especially for women). That's just not true. Mainstream society expects everyone to be sexually attracted to conventionally good-looking members of the opposite gender even if they don't know them. Stop pretending society = small towns in the Bible Belt or Victorian time travellers.

AYRT Yes! I actually made this comment because I'm tired of seeing 'Demisexuality isn't even a thing' because it clearly is, or people wouldn't have bothered to make a word for it and gotten so attached to the idea. I don't get this 'we don't need a new word for things!' that goes around these days, we make new words for things all the time, it's why none of my peers say 'groovy' or 'tubular' all the time. And every few months you find those 'top ten simple foreign words for complex concepts' lists and everyone loves those.

This. I was so happy wen I realized there was a word for it, and then so dismayed to see people treat it like a garbage issue, completely unable to understand how it's NOT "just like everybody else!"

Apparently your "mainstream society" is a society I've never encountered, because never once have I seen anybody outside the deep south that thinks like this.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
DA but I think you've misread their comment.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I did not. I just think their argument is fucking ridiculous.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Did you misread? You're saying the only place you've met people who do think it's normal to be sexually attracted to someone you don't love is... the deep South?

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Deep south is not "mainstream society" by a longshot. Nobody fucking cares under what conditions you want to fuck someone. Mainstream society doesn't give a shit. The only one who seems to care about this bullshit are the demisexuals themselves.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'd argue the people who want to fuck the demisexual person care quite a bit.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. They'll just find somebody else to fuck.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
You speak for everyone now? OK.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking from observation. You don't want to put out? Fine. They'll just find someone who will.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Not everybody only hangs around for the sex (which isn't to say only being into the sex is bad, but acting like that's how everyone is is entirely inaccurate.)

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well of course not. Demisexuals exist. I'm saying based on my observation, nobody else gives a shit about this except the demisexuals making a stink over it.

DA

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Sexual attraction =/= wanting to fuck

SA

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Also: sometimes the the person the word applies to caring is literally the point of needing the word. People like being able to know who they are and that others like them exist! Wow!

Re: SA

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
And in demisexuals' case, they see everyone else getting sparkly labels and sympathy because they're legit oppressed minorities who JUST won the right to be legally recognized, so they had to go invent some bullshit to get in on the party and have a way to bitch and piss and moan about how their lives are SO HARD because they only want to fuck people they really, really like (you know, like MOST OF THE GODDAMN POPULATION).

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're sexually attracted to someone, it means you'd like to fuck them. Or has Tumblr rhetoric screwed your head up so badly that you refuse to admit words have meanings anymore?

This times a thousand, THANK YOU.

Thank you. You put it into words much better than I could.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
When and how are people's instant sexual attraction to attractive people policed and monitored?

This is absurd. No one gives a fuck about your lack of sexual attraction. Especially if you actually DO feel sexual attraction and WOULD be willing to have sex with others, which actual asexuals can't even claim. Who the fuck would respond to "I just need to get to know someone first before I know if I'm attracted to them or not" with "BURN THE WITCH"? not real, rational people, that's for sure.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No one gives a fuck about your lack of sexual attraction.

So I take it you don't believe in asexuality either?

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Cry more, shithead. And take your stupid Tumblr bullshit with you.

Re: controversial opinions thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Contrary to popular belief, Tumblr hates demisexuality now. All the people yelling about demisexuality just being a special snowflake label for experiencing misogyny and people who would be socially acceptable in the 1950s (because that's such a normal, desirable thing to be these days!) sound exactly like tumblrinas.
