Comic strip today me twitch, and I can't decide if I'm overreacting or if it's genuinely shitty. Thoughts?

I'm not even sure I'm understanding it. Is it a play on "fruity"? Do people even still use that term for gay people? Is it some "people are too PC these days" thing where an innocuous word is replaced with something that has nothing to do with it in that context because it's related to something that can be offensive in other very specific contexts?

Another case of an old cartoonist making a stupid joke about shit he doesn't understand. In the long run it's not exactly Steven Anderson-level, but it's definitely worth an eye-roll.

Yep, that. Someone who's making fun of "political correctness," but they're about ten years behind and don't really get how things are now.

"Fruity" doesn't seem to be popular as slang or an insult (at least it's nothing I've heard from anyone my age, and I'm in my twenties) and even if it were, no one now would object to it being used to actually refer to fruit. It's like the idiot who tried to be deliberately offensive on facebook by posting a picture of a pansy (more old fashioned slang) and asked people to tell him what it was called... no, dumbass, gay people aren't offended by people using the word for the actual thing it refers to. That's not using it as a slur.

Huh, I didn't even know "pansy" was ever a gay slur. I thought it was just another way of saying a guy was a wuss.
