When members of an oppressed group criticize a bad behavior by attributing it to the privileged group, they're only trying to free themselves of the possibility that they could ever be guilty of the same behavior.

For a common example, "Stop white people forever from fetishizing Asian cultures" - this lets the non-white, non-Asian people assure themselves that no matter what they might feel or do regarding Asian cultures, it can't be "fetishizing," because they're not a white person who's doing it. That's really what they care about more than preventing a culture from being fetishized.

I once saw an argument that white people shouldn't write about black people because people from the Caribbean only write about people from the Caribbean. I thought that was incredibly stupid.
