And how is it different from using a straight pairing as a punchline? The idea that a poke at a straight pairing is about that one pairing but a poke at a same sex pairing is about All Same Sex Pairings Everywhere is ridiculous.

*facepalm* because a straight couple is more likely to happen. LGBT is just a joke to many.

"To many" not to all or even to most. We shouldn't be considering what bigots think anyway.

And looking at all things, there's a big difference between "a straight couple" and "a specific straight couple that someone brings up as a joke in an interview".

the fact that you have to ask the difference means you won't get it anyway

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
So you're not even going to attempt to try to explain it?

straight people are treated differently from gay people

there you go

A straight pairing is more likely to happen. This is because in the comics and movies, neither characters are shown to ever have a romantic relationship with a man. (Obviously this does not mean they can't in the future where perhaps society as a whole is more accepting.) And since MCU has shown to deviate from the comics in romantic pairings, if one was to joke about a straight pairing happening, it would not be considered far-fetched as opposed to a same sex pairing.

That being said, I don't think it is any different of a punchline, if the characters in question, were gay and people joked about pairing them with someone of the opposite sex, as it would most likely not happen.
