A straight pairing is more likely to happen. This is because in the comics and movies, neither characters are shown to ever have a romantic relationship with a man. (Obviously this does not mean they can't in the future where perhaps society as a whole is more accepting.) And since MCU has shown to deviate from the comics in romantic pairings, if one was to joke about a straight pairing happening, it would not be considered far-fetched as opposed to a same sex pairing.

That being said, I don't think it is any different of a punchline, if the characters in question, were gay and people joked about pairing them with someone of the opposite sex, as it would most likely not happen.
