I think the idea of cultural appropriation, not the act of appropriation itself, is incredibly damaging to society. Everything we love was appropriated. That is how culture works. One culture steals, borrows, gives, forces, or merges with others. It's often ugly but the end result is us.

No, I don't think you should wear a war bonnet ever unless you're a member of a group that wears them. But if you want to wear cornrows? GO FOR IT.

This. Also, cultures die out when they're kept insular and not shared with others. Look at how many languages have gone or are going extinct as a result.
