Is it appropriate to italicize a show title in dialogue? That seems up there with something like "I woke up at 6:00" instead of "I woke up at six." We don't speak in italics.

Anyway, it may be a minor detail, but those kinds of things can pull you out of the story and authors should care about that. Plus, you can find the correct name with Google and a few seconds, so there's no reason people shouldn't get it right (although I can see honestly thinking you had the name right and not bothering to check because of that).

I think we do, actually.

Speak in italics, I mean. I use it in dialogue (and uppercase and the occasional bold) to emphasize certain words, to try to capture what people do with intonation, pitch, and volume when speaking.

But that's different. Putting the shw name in italics makes it look like it's emphasized when it's not.

Totally, dude.

You can. You're even supposed to do it in articles.

It's also a stylistic thing.

I've never seen a movie/show/book not italicized in dialogue. We don't speak in capital letters, either, and capitals in dialogue are still a thing.
