I honestly wouldn't know, but if it's even barely functional or has any semblance of consistency then I have to assume it's better than TLoU.

Assume away, but like a lot of other things, you're wrong.

Stealth in Metro 2033 basically works by following a step-by-step guide on gamefaqs so as best avoid confrontations, of which there is ONE path to success, and only ONE, and if you make the slightest mistake, the alarm is sounded, and sometimes you don't even need to make a mistake, they just go ham for the hell of it.

And it's not much better in Last Light, either.

You are objectively incorrect about both games. I succeeded - on Ranger Hardcore - using multiple paths. Herp watched me do this.

Well, I don't use mind-bending drugs, so as far as I know, I've never hallucinated the bullshit stealth sequences in the multiple times I've played through the Metro games. Maybe I should, I might imagine something better.

And we've reached peak douchebag. You and Herpy deserve each other.

Are you trying to imply something about me, here?

(frozen comment) Re: What media did you instantly regret spending money on?

What... are you even talking about?

In M:LL there are multiple paths to take in any given layout. Generally there is an optimal one, sure, but in every level there was a high path, a low path, and a more direct route to the exit.

You could choose to sneak around enemies or you could use takedowns. There wasn't a single way to do anything. There was also always a set detection range and a set amount of seconds it would take for the alarm to be raised if someone found a body, so you could usually double back and take them down as well if that happened. I never had alarms raised "for no reason".

You can say I'm wrong all you like, but your opinion is the hard minority here, so I'm inclined to believe the opposite.

MLL's stealth is clunky and kind of stupid, but it IS actually laid out better, I'll grant that. But 2033's stealth is exactly what I described.

(frozen comment) Re: What media did you instantly regret spending money on?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-05-20 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take your word for it.

But ...like Ari said, she did finish M:2033 full stealth. What's more it doesn't really challenge the argument that TLoU's stealth is terrible, inconsistent, and doesn't even work half the time.

So sure: I'll concede your point out of total inexperience, but it doesn't really have much to do with the rest of it.

Except I never had a problem with TLOU's stealth, and indeed this started because I disagreed with the notion that 2033's stealth (though let's be honest, MLL too) is better than TLOU's. I'm pretty sure I even mentioned that somewhere in this thread. So maybe y'all need to, as Ari suggests, "git gud."

(frozen comment) Re: What media did you instantly regret spending money on?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-05-20 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Objectively, this is you in the minority with this though. That's my point. It doesn't have much to do with gitting gud if you happened to have the one working copy of the game.

If you want another example of people who thought TLoU had busted stealth, there's the Best Friends Zaibatsu on YouTube (look it up, or not, idc). There's four more people right there. So now there's me, Ari, Yahtzee, and four other public gamers who agree that TLoU has terrible gameplay.

Me in the minority against... who, really? You and Ari and another random person on Youtube? Yeah, alright, I can see my argument has been crushed under a mess of righteous dick urrrp.

Or not. If we're going to play argumentum ad populum, clearly the game sold well enough to get an HD re-release, which also sold well, which suggests that perhaps the game isn't nearly as bad as you described it. And if I experienced no issues with my game, it stands to reason that many, perhaps most other people also experienced no issues. And considering, on top of THAT, that you have a documented history of running into "bugs" where other people have not in seemingly EVERY game...

Draw your own conclusions. Maybe consider replacing your PS3?

It's not us, it's you.

You're not coming up with any counter examples because you can't. I get it, you're a fanboy, you're going to defend it to the point of personal insult.

Cool.

Is that all you've got? Hilarious.

I love how you keep trotting out "fanboy" when I've repeatedly said I'm not. I just don't think TLOU's stealth is that bad, and certainly not worse than either Metro game.

(frozen comment) Re: What media did you instantly regret spending money on?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-05-20 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's literally true. The only thing you've said as a counter argument is that we must be bad at video games.

You can't point to a single person, here or elsewhere, that thinks TLoU has good stealth.
